Michael Binz is a managing director with Willamette Management Associates.
Mike provides valuation advisory and financial consulting services and manages engagements related to the valuation of closely held business entities and business interests, assets and private securities, intangible assets, and intellectual property. Mike also has extensive experience preparing and reviewing valuations for financial reporting purposes under U.S. generally accepted accounting principles and international financial reporting standards.
Mike has managed and performed the following types of valuation assignments: wealth transfer planning, estate and gift tax, generation skipping tax, damages claims, buy-sell agreements, income tax, charitable deductions, stock deductions, intangible assets, mergers and acquisitions, financial reporting, fairness opinions, solvency analyses, ESOP transactions, marital dissolutions, economic damages and lost profits analyses, bankruptcy and restructuring analyses, fresh-start accounting, and financial consulting for buy-side and sell-side transactions.
Mike has provided expert testimony in federal court, various state courts, and in alternate dispute resolution settings including arbitration and mediation. Mike works within the firm’s wealth management practice which focuses on estate tax, gift tax, generation-skipping tax, charitable income tax, fiduciary, marital planning, family and partner disputes, and other tax issues for high net worth families and their businesses. He has extensive experience with Internal Revenue Service audits and appellate conferences.
Mike has experience with the valuation of various types of business entities and interests, including: private family-owned businesses, employee-owned businesses, noncontrolling interests, tangible and intangible assets, restricted stock of publicly traded companies, large blocks of publicly traded securities, preferred stock, debt securities, general and limited partnership interests, limited liability company membership interests, professional practices, joint ventures, licensing agreements, and foreign domiciled entities.
Prior to joining Willamette Management Associates, Mike was a managing director and local practice leader for Deloitte’s Transactions and Business Analytics practice in St. Louis, Missouri. In that role, he provided valuation and financial advisory services to public and private companies. Mike was a director at PriceWaterhouseCoopers corporate value consulting practice in Detroit, Michigan. He was also a director at Stone Carlie Investment Banking, LLC, in St. Louis, Missouri, and a manager at Marshall & Stevens, Inc., in St. Louis, Missouri.
